Understand your roof
Where the roof meets a wall
Ask your roofer
- Will you pull back the siding to install new step flashing?
- Will you add a kick-out where the roof edge meets the wall?
Ask them to put the answer in writing.
Why it matters
Where a roof runs into a wall, water gets behind the siding if the metal isn’t tucked in right, and rots the wall where you can’t see it.
How it should be built
Tap Next on the drawing to see it go together, layer by layer.
- The siding is pulled back so new step flashing can go in.
- Ice & water turns up the wall underneath.
- A kick-out at the bottom sends water into the gutter, not the wall.
