- Is my skylight deck-mount or curb-mount?
- Are you replacing the skylight or reflashing it, and is the flashing kit made for it?
Ask them to put the answer in writing.
Why it matters
Most skylight leaks come from the flashing around it, not the glass.
How it should be built

- Deck-mount skylights sit right on the roof deck. Curb-mount skylights sit on a raised wooden box (the curb). Switch between them on the drawing.
- Ice & water wraps the frame or curb, bottom first, then the sides, then the top.
- A flashing kit made for that skylight goes on with the shingles.
- Old skylights are often replaced with the roof so the flashing matches.
