Understand your roof
Pipe boots
Ask your roofer
- Are all pipe boots being replaced, and with what kind?
- How long are they made to last?
Ask them to put the answer in writing.
Why it matters
The rubber collar around each pipe dries out and cracks long before the shingles wear out. It’s one of the most common leaks on a newer roof.
How it should be built
Tap Next on the drawing to see it go together, layer by layer.
- Every pipe boot is replaced with the new roof.
- Each boot slides under the shingles above and over the ones below.
- Lead or long-life boots last as long as the roof.
